Ovetta Mae Huckaby was born in the Selman Community on Jan 5, 1921 to Ethel and Paul Huckaby. She graduated from Selman Schools with the class of 1938. On June 5 1938 Ovetta married Dean Carter of Dacoma, Oklahoma. To their union three children were born Terry Paul, Joleta Joyce, and Danny Dean. Ovetta was a farm wife. She loved to read, cook, sew, and raise flowers. Ovetta was active in the Buffalo Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, sponsoring MYF, and helping with funeral dinners and homecoming dinners. Ovetta was a member of the AYLI, Home Demonstration Club, which she served a term as State President, Garden Club, and Oklahoma Extension Club. Ovetta and Dean loved to travel, they made trips to Europe, South America, Old Mexico, and Hawaii. For many years they spent the winters at their retirement home in Mesa, Arizona. Ovetta was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dean Carter. Ovetta left her earthly home on Friday, November 5, 2015 at the Grace Living Center, at the age of 94 years and 10 months. Ovetta leaves as her survivors sons Terry Cater and wife Marilyn, Danny Carter and wife Teresa, of Buffalo, Oklahoma; daughter Joleta Pierce of Buffalo, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, Debbie McGeehee, Sandra Carter, Cheri Norton, Keri Gardner, Kathy Quinby, Cindi Stefanovic, Jeff Pierce, Jarie Lively, Micah Carter, Matthew Carter, Danesa Drost; 26 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, other family and friends.
