James “Jim” Hill Burnside, 77 of Buffalo, Oklahoma passed away May 15, 2018. “Jim” best known to family and friends, was born on February 11, 1941 in Garden City, Kansas. He was the son of John and Imogene (Hill) Burnside. Jim and Shirley Quakenbush Burnside were united in marriage on December 22, 1962 at Sublette, Kansas. Their family was made complete with two boys Keith, Kirk and daughter Teresa.
Jim started working the banking business in 1966 as a cashier. They made their home in Buffalo, Oklahoma, where Jim later became president and CEO of the Oklahoma State Bank for 47 years. Jim was also President of the 1st National Bank of Texhoma, Oklahoma from 1977 - 1981, and then returned to Buffalo, Oklahoma, still working at the Oklahoma State Bank until he retired. Jim grew up in the Cattle Business and was always involved in the Cattle Business. Jim had many hobbies, he loved to fly his airplane and taught his children how to fly at a very early age, even before they could see out of the front of the plane. Most important to Jim was spending time with his family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Teresa Burnside in 2004, and son Kirk Burnside in 2005.
Jim is survived by his wife Shirley Burnside of the home, son Keith and wife Cindy Burnside of Wichita, Kansas, and grandson Cole Burnside of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Daughter-in-law Tisha Burnside and grandsons Zach Burnside, Dillon Jones and Austin Jones of Farmington, Minnesota, a brother John C. and wife Barbara Burnside of Katy , Texas, sisters Judy and husband Robert Henderson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jane and husband Bill Alsop of Salina, Kansas, and baby brother Joe and wife Jana Burnside of Garden City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Buffalo EMS or to Harper County Community Hospital.
