Gary Neal Woods was born on February 25, 1961 in Garden City, Kansas to Marvin Dwight and Naomi Woods, and passed away on August 13, 2024 at his home in Englewood, Kansas at the age of 63. Known affectionately as "Woods", "Woodsy" or "WB," Gary was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend whose kindness and patience touched the lives of many.
Gary spent his career working in the oilfield and owned and operated a pheasant farm. He also worked in the construction trades for years previously. He had a passion and skill for making beautiful furniture and attended Garden City Community college to study woodworking. He found joy in remodeling homes and building things for others, sharing his knowledge and teaching others along the way, even building his grandchildren their own workbench so they could create things alongside him. He found joy in his creative endeavors and there was nothing he couldn't fix or make. His ability to create anything from wood was matched only by his passion for life. He cherished time spent with his daughters - Michelle McKain of Louisburg, KS; Amanda Nelson and her husband Brett of Jamestown, KS, Jennifer Carter and her husband Keith of Louisburg, KS. He took great pride in his grandchildren : Hunter Cook, and wife Jasmin, Logen Kernell and husband Garrett, Benjamin, Ayden, Katie, Jacob McKain, Kaleb and Karson Carter, Woodrow Brack, Braelynn and Zane Nelson along with his 2 great grandchildren: Maria Cook and Allen Thomas.
Gary loved to travel and embarked on numerous adventures, speaking often of his trips to places like Japan, Hawaii and California with his brothers. Fishing trips to Alaska, down to New Orleans thru the Gulf Coast and up to Hilton Head or trips to the store which ended up a road trip to Mexico with his friends. He always went along with whatever the rest of the group was doing as long as there was beer. He enjoyed family vacations, camping trips, and trips to support his children and grandchildren in their sports, academic and life accomplishments.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Patricia Woods. He is survived by his brothers: Brent Woods and wife Patty, Greg, Doug and wife Gay, James and wife Loralie, and his sister Sandy Younger and husband Darrell, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
His legacy is one of love and generosity. Gary's unwavering support for his family and friends made him a pillar in their lives, and he will be remembered for his gentle spirit and readiness to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
