Michael Duane Stinson was born in Buffalo, Oklahoma on April 16, 1961 to Kenneth Stewart Stinson (Bud) and Patricia Faye (Savoy) Stinson. Duane attended Buffalo Public Schools graduating with the Class of 1979 and was involved in every sport that was offered as well as other extra-curricular activities, to include the band and FFA. Duane’s first entrepreneurship was when he was about fifteen years old, partnering with other young friends in many hours of spelunking and selling bat guano. Their total prophets in the venture produced the total sum of about $20.00 sales. Duane held several honored titles thru his high school years some of which include male “Class Favorite” all four years of high school & voted “Mr. BHS” by the whole student body in his senior year. After high school Duane attended Okmulgee Technology, toward an EET, Electrical Electronic Technology, degree and later attending Oklahoma State University graduating May 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy & Economics. To help pay for his college expense Duane worked one summer for the Soil Conservation service and another summer with ODOT. Also, while going to school he managed a tanning business, “Tan Fastic” that he and his brother Bodie partnered in. While attending college in 1987 Duane met a Stillwater native, Cheryl Garbrecht and after graduating college they were married. Duane’s career accomplishment’s began with general farming/ranching operations and as a tractor/trailer rig operator and later taking a job Bookkeeping and commodity Purchasing for four years at Central Plains Feed yard located east of Buffalo, Oklahoma. For the last eighteen years Duane has worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation-Division 6, Buffalo, in several advancing positions with his last job title of Transportation Specialist IV in the ODOT’s construction & engineering department before taking ill with cancer. As a young boy Duane attended the First Christian Church and was baptized. As a young man his hobbies were motorcycle riding and working many hours restoring his “Big Black 57 Olds”. He enjoyed being with his family and friends playing golf, spending many fall seasons hunting deer and quail. He often mentioned that he looked forward to the fall season because of football games and hunting season. Duane was quite the “griller and chef’ and hosted many friends and family to his grilled “Specialties”. Duane will be remembered by all who knew him for his outgoing, charming personality, kind heartedness, wit and humor and will be greatly missed. Duane was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Stewart Stinson; step father Hal Richards; and his brother Bodie Stinson in Sept. 18 2014. Duane departed this life at home on March 26, 2015 at the age of 53 years and 11 months. Duane leaves as his survivors his mother Patricia Richards, sister Larisa Howell, his grandmother Mildred VanDeburgh, step mother Patsy Stinson all of Buffalo, Oklahoma; nephews David Stinson of Round Rock, Texas; Chris & Brandi Howell and son’s Hunter & Slayden of Owasso, Oklahoma; niece Jennie Howell of Atlanta, Georgia; and sister in law Vicki Stinson of Edmond, Oklahoma, many other relatives and friends.
