Betty Lou Koeppen Hale, was born in Watonga, Oklahoma on December 14, 1939 to Paul and Maureen (Deweese) Koeppen. Betty graduated from Mission Bay High School in San Diego, California in 1957 where she enjoyed homemaking class and learned to cook and sew. Betty attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in Weatherford, Oklahoma where she met Karey Don on a blind date. They married on June 1, 1958. After college they moved to Bay City, Texas, Betty worked at The Palms Motel as a receptionist/operator where she met Steve McQueen while he was there filming the movie, Baby The Rain Must Fall. She also worked as a Bell Telephone operator and a receptionist for a local dentist. Later they moved to Sweeny, Texas where Betty worked for Sweeny ISD as a secretary. In 1979 they moved to Buffalo, Oklahoma, where Betty worked for Buffalo ISD. Later, she went to work for ODOT where she retired in 2006. Betty enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, walking, and doing puzzles and tea parties with her grandchildren. She made clothes for her girls, and everyone always had a homemade birthday cake. Preceded in deaths by her loving husband Karey Don Hale; Betty’s parents Paul and Maureen Koeppen; her sister Billie Jean Teagle; and her uncles William Deweese and Glenn Deweese: sister-in-law Beverly Short and brother-in-law Jack Short. Betty left her earthly home peacefully on June 11, 2024 in Woodward, Oklahoma. Betty is survived by her brother Robert Koeppen and his wife Susan Koeppen; daughter and son-in-law Kelley and David Conner, and daughter and son-in-law Shoy and Andy Hamilton; also grandchildren Cody Conner; Sheri and Todd Moebes, Amanda and Jason Ecrette, Andrea and Ryan Kline, Clint and Emily Hamilton, Taylor Stoll and Gabriel Carrillo; great-grandchildren Presli Moebes, Kadon Moebes, Keeli Moebes, Rori Kline, Nixon Ecrette, Tucker Ecrette, and Andrew Hamilton; niece Deborah Talbert and husband Travis Talbert; niece Rudena Cole and husband DC Cole; niece Kelley Koeppen and nephew Christian Segura; and many other friends and family. No one left mamaw and papaw’s house without a bright red lipstick kiss on their cheek.
Graveside service will be held 10:00AM Friday June 14, 2024 in the Kibby Cemetery, south of Buffalo, OK.
The family suggest in lieu of flowers memorial in Betty's name to the Buffalo First Christian Church, Kibby Cemetery, or the Buffalo Fire Dept.
