Audrey Smith / Hink

Audrey was born March 3, 1933 on the family farm southwest of Englewood, Kansas. She grew up and went to school there working extra hard so she could graduate early. Her Dad gave her the nickname (skip) because she skipped everywhere she went doing her chores and playing as a child.

  After graduation from high school Audrey and Johnnie Smith got married in Dodge City on June 3, 1949. Johnnie worked in road construction and building elevators in western Kansas. When they lived in Jetmore, Kansas, Audrey gave birth to Janet in 1950 and Johnnie (Bud) in 1951 at Dodge City. Work slowed down and Johnnie and Audrey moved to Coldwater and worked on the Hall Ranch.

  When the construction work picked up they moved to Salina, Kansas for a short time and then on to Great Bend, Kansas, living there for 11 years and Audrey gave birth to two more girls Nyla in 1955 and Nancy in 1958. 

  They moved to Slapout, Oklahoma in 1966. A son Darrell was born in Beaver, Oklahoma in 1968, In 1970 they moved back to Kansas, living 15 miles west of Englewood on Crooked Creek. By 1988 all the children had grown up and left home. Johnnie and Audrey were living alone until Johnnie passed away on November 20, 1991.

  Audrey moved to Laverne, Oklahoma for a short time and on to Weatherford, Oklahoma  living with her youngest daughter and husband Bob and Nancy Thompson. She bought her own house later. Audrey reunited with an old classmate Roy Hink and got married Sept 27, 1997. They enjoyed each other and going and seeing their children until Roy passed away on April 18, 2009. Audrey lived alone for a few years until her sister Hazel came and lived with her until her death in April 2016.

  Audrey had a stroke in December 2018 and was unable to care for herself, so she lived with Nancy in Elk City and Bud in Weatherford until she left her earthly home on May 18, 2024. Audrey is survived by 5 children Jan Aranda near Bentonville, AR, Johnnie Smith (Bud) from Weatherford, OK, Rick and Nyla Myers from Seneca, MO, Nancy Thompson from Elk City, OK, Darrell and Keri from Weatherford, OK. Audrey enjoyed her 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
