Alice June was born on June 4, 1937 as the youngest daughter to Elvin and Edna (Devous) Wanger in Freedom, OK.
When she was five years old the Wanger family moved to Buffalo, OK starting in the first grade in 1942.
By the time she started second grade, the family had moved to Gage, OK. In 1944 they found their farm home near Ft. Supply where they made their homestead. The farm has remained in the Wanger family since it was established.
In 1950, Alice became a member of the Fairview Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the Ft. Supply School system in 1955. Her first job was in Woodward, OK, but she continued to also help out on the farm.
After being swept off her feet by Lennes Jones, the couple married in 1956 she joined him in Buffalo where he worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT). Soon after they started their own family. Michael was the first born son in 1957, followed by son Mark Elvin in 1961, and daughter Linda Kay in 1963. Alice and Lennes were married over 60 years prior to his passing in 2017.
Alice became the Cafeteria Manager for Buffalo Public Schools from 1962 to 1972. She also worked for ODOT where she retired in 1990.
Those who knew Alice, knew she was a giver and had a love for her community. She volunteered for many local events and served on various boards and committees including the Harper County Fair Board, Buffalo Museum Board, and the Shop Buffalo First Committee. She enjoyed helping with the July 4th Celebration and was a member of the Buffalo Red Hats, and the Harper County Home Demonstration Club. She also loved gathering with her friends at the Diner and Senior Center.
She and her sisters were close knit and did many things together including making wedding and birthday cakes for many years. She loved baking and gifting homemade bread and cinnamon rolls. Alice was well known for her cooking and acquired an extensive collection of over 650 cookbooks. She also collected candy dishes and decorative glassware.
Alice had a great love for her family and made many special memories while caring for her grandchildren, grand-dog Sophie; and her beloved Kitty.
She is survived by son, Michael; daughter Linda Johnson (Brad); grandchildren Spencer, Kyle (Kendra), Allison, and Tessa; great-granddaughter Rosie; sisters Dorothy, Lily Neill (Don); brother Harold; sisters-in-law Earlene and Darlene; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends who will dearly miss her.
Graveside services will be held at the May Cemetery on Tuesday, October 17th at 2:00 p.m. with Tom Lucas officiating the service where she will be laid to rest with her husband Lennes and son Mark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to the Buffalo Community Foundation (PO Box 27, Buffalo, OK 73834); or the Buffalo Senior Citizens Center (PO Box 225, Buffalo, OK 73834).
