Adella Appleton Allen was born March 20, 1919 to John William Appleton and Agnes Myrtle (Rea) Appleton in Selman, OK. She left this life on Friday, October 21, 2011at the age of 92 years 7 months in Yukon, OK on the wedding anniversary date of her parents. Adella was one of seven children that was raised on the family farm in Selman, Oklahoma and graduated from Selman High School. Adella married Robert E. (Bob) Allen on July 27, 1941 at the First Christian Church in Buffalo, OK. To this union they had four children, Lavae, Larry, Jerry and Janice. They made their home in Buffalo, OK until Adella moved to Victoria Estates, Yukon, OK to be near her daughter in May 2006. Adella was a devoted housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and kept the books for the family business, Tru-Gas all their married life. Adella enjoyed working part-time at the Buffalo Flower Shop. Adella was a long time member of the First Christian Church, Buffalo, OK, Buffalo Rose Garden Club and the AYLI Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob of 59 years, in November 1998 and her son, Larry Rea Allen, in January 1999 and brothers, Delbert Appleton as a small child, Vernon Appleton and Joe Bill Appleton. Adella is survived by her daughter, Lavae and John Downey, Yukon, OK; son, Jerry and Kay Allen, Guymon OK; daughter, Janice and Dale Barnicoat, Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, John Todd and Townie Downey, Midwest City, OK; Brian and Terri Downey, Mustang, OK; Jennifer and Travis Winters, Guymon, OK; Sonya and Terry Brooks, Woodward, OK; Chad and Jennifer Barnicoat, Alpharetta, GA; Emily and Matt Warren, Cottontown, TN; eleven great-grandchildren, Rebekah Downey, Purcell, OK; Brandon Grissam, Kyle Grissam and Calen Akers, Midwest City, OK; McKenzie and Ethan John Downey, Mustang, OK; Lakin and Tatum Winters, Guymon, OK; Cole Brooks, Woodward, OK; Madison Barnicoat, Alpharetta, GA; Emma Claire Warren, Cottontown, TN; sisters, Geraldine Martin, Woodward, OK; Vera Harper, Bartlesville, OK; Ilomae and Glen Beck, Buffalo, OK; sister in law Iva Appleton and Bessie Appleton both of Buffalo, Ok.; brother-in-law, Donald Gift, Beaver, OK; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers the family has ask that memorials be made to the First Christian Church, Buffalo, OK with the Wilkinson Funeral Service receiving these memorials.
